Capoeira Manchester - ACDC Mestre Jo (Hulme, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M15 6HP) --
Hi Everyone, I’m Monitor Macaco and I belong to the Capoeira Group A.C.D.C. Mestre Jó (Asociación Cultural, Deportiva de Capoeira Mestre Jó) and I have been practicing capoeira for 13 years. I’m a student of Mestre Jó Capoeira (Salvador de Bahía) and I started my capoeira journey in Gran Canaria in 2007 where I trained with Mestre Jo Capoeira in an area called Playa del Ingles. Since a kid I always watched videos of capoeira and had a background of breakdance and parkour, so I was always interested in what it was and how it combined kicks, acrobatics, fight and dance. In 2009 I moved to Manchester to study Human Nutrition and kept learning capoeira with Mestre Parente (CDO) and travelled to Gran Canaria as much as I could. Sadly in 2011 Mestre Jó Capoeira passed away due to cancer, but in the 4 years I trained with him I got a very strong base and the group continued in Gran Canaria with the other Formados/Professores that he formed. In the following years, I travelled as much as a I could to learn from different masters and different groups expanding the horizons of my capoeira and defining my own style with the base of Mestre Jó Capoeira In summer of 2019, I graduated as Monitor of Capoeira by Formado (Professor) Dalmata in front of Mestre Parente, Mestre Sobranselha, Mestre Delanio, Professor Piabinha, Professora Borrachinha, Professor Tatu, Instructor Kadinho, Formado Tubarao, Formado Cremcrak, Monitor Raposa, Monitor Acaraje, Monitor Mortalzinho, Monitor Polaco and all the students. My dream has always been to carry out the work of my master to keep his essence alive by teaching what he taught me. In January 2020, I started my group in Manchester and had regular classes until the pandemic hit. I’ve done free classes in the park when restrictions eased in Summer 2020 and Spring 2021. In May 2021 I will be continuing my groups work in Manchester and will have regular classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Trinity Sports Centre from 18:30 to 20

Capoeira Origens do Brasil UK (Portsmouth, England, PO4 0DL) --
Capoeira is an art form which can be described in many ways. It encompasses Afro-Brazilian culture, art, music, language, and movement into one cohesive whole. The result is beautiful yet dangerous, smooth yet powerful. Capoeira is an incredible way to improve strength, especially core strength and the upper body but it is not about being athletic and tough but about being astute, incisive and perceptive of the opposition’s next move. The key objective of our project is to invest in the long-term health and well-being of our community in the UK through Capoeira, motivating children and adults to be active, to control their physical abilities to avoid violence and anger. To build up a strong and positive attitude towards the society they live in; to confront fears and anxieties. Our group provides equal opportunities for less abled children and people who are excluded for any reason. Our aim is to integrate people into a social circle surrounded by culture, music and physical skills in an atmosphere which everyone can feel like a family and enjoying learning.
