• In 1976 the late Robert Prentice (History teacher) formed the Burton Borough Cycling Club and started out with its young members competing in circuit races, time trials, grass track and hard track racing throughout the Midlands. In 1977 the club had its 1st area schools champion with Richard Goddard winning the under 13`s race at Birmingham. With increasing interest from parents and friends it was decided to open up the club to more like minded people who enjoyed cycling and so in 1977 the Newport (Salop) Cycling Club was formed. In 2007 it was decided that the name of the club needed to be brought up to date and was renamed as Newport Shropshire Cycling Club. Over the years the Club has grown into a strong diverse club that supports social cycling and touring, as well as racing whether it be Road Racing, Time Trialing, Mountain Biking, Cyclo-Cross or Track. Our club runs start from The Square at 9:30am every Sunday morning. Throughout the year we promote a series of club events and races. We welcome any new members, of any age, who wish to ride socially, race or take part in the sport in any way.
